Product Details

This high-power ultraviolet (UV) light module features a premium LG 5050 SMD LED chip pre-soldered onto a star-shaped 20mm aluminum metal-core printed circuit board (MCPCB). Emitting in the long-wave 395nm - 400nm near-visible UVA spectrum, this 10W emitter offers a balance between robust radiant output and high visible fluorescence. The integrated aluminum base simplifies mounting and thermal routing for custom curing rigs, blacklights, and inspection gear.

Features

  • Vibrant 395nm Blacklight Spectrum: Emitting right at the border of visible light and ultraviolet radiation, this chip produces a deep purple/violet glow alongside a high-intensity UVA beam. It is highly efficient at exciting everyday fluorescent materials, making them pop with intense brightness.
  • Aluminum Star MCPCB Core: The underlying 20mm star board is stamped from high-purity aluminum. It serves as an immediate thermal bridge, spreading the intense heat generated by the microscopic silicon junction away from the chip toward your main cooling hardware.
  • Pre-Tinned Solder Pads: Features large, clearly marked positive (+) and negative (-) contact terminals on the star edges. This lets you attach power leads quickly with a standard soldering iron without exposing the delicate 5050 SMD silicone lens to direct heat damage.
  • Low Forward Voltage: Optimized semiconductor chemistry allows this chip to operate at a slightly lower forward voltage than shorter wavelength (365nm) LEDs, reducing overall power consumption and heat generation per watt.

Understanding Wavelength Profiles: 395nm vs. 365nm

Selecting the correct UV wavelength depends entirely on your specific application requirements:

  • 395nm – 400nm (This Chip): Emits a highly visible purple light. It is the classic "blacklight" color. It is ideal for entertainment, neon party decorations, general leak tracking, and fast-curing standard consumer UV resins because the visible light lets you see exactly where the beam is aiming.
  • 365nm – 370nm: Sits almost completely in the invisible spectrum. It produces a very faint, pale-white look to the naked eye but possesses higher chemical excitation energy, making it mandatory for verifying high-security currency features, passports, and forensic blood tracking where visible purple light would wash out details.

Common Applications

  • General UV Resin Curing: Rapidly cross-linking and hardening standard UV craft resins, fly-tying polishes, and consumer-grade 3D printing touch-up polymers.
  • Leak Detection Diagnostics: Illuminating fluorescent dye additives in automotive air conditioning systems, cooling loops, and hydraulic reservoirs to pinpoint fluid breaches.
  • Uranium Glass & Mineral Glow: Exciting glow-in-the-dark properties in fluorescent minerals, Vaseline/Uranium glass collections, and specialty artwork.
  • Entertainment & Stage Lighting: Building custom high-power blacklight fixtures for glow parties, theater stages, and escape room environments.

Critical Drivers & Safety Guidelines

  • Constant Current Driver Required: CRITICAL: Do not connect this LED directly to a 12V battery, car circuit, or standard fixed-voltage power supply. High-power LEDs suffer from thermal runaway—as the chip warms up, its resistance drops, forcing it to draw more current until it burns itself out. You must power this module using a dedicated Constant Current LED Driver calibrated between 700mA and 1000mA.
  • Active Heatsink Mandatory: A 10W LED concentrates immense heat into a tiny area. The 20mm aluminum star board is merely a heat spreader, not a standalone radiator. You must bolt or bond the star board down to a larger aluminum finned heatsink using high-quality thermal paste or thermal tape. Running this chip for more than 5 seconds without a heatsink will permanently degrade the chip brightness or instantly melt the internal wire bonds.
  • Visual Safety Warning: While 395nm light produces a visible purple glow, it emits high-intensity UVA radiation that can cause eye fatigue and corneal strain over time. Avoid staring directly into the beam of an active 10W LED. If you are using it for extended periods to inspect components or cure resins, wear UV400-rated safety glasses to shield your eyes from reflective glare.
